A Study on the Occupational Diseases


Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence rate of occupational diseases due to various harmful factors, i.e. noise, benzene, and lead.
For this purpose, the authors investigated the prevalence rate of occupational diseases on 923 subjects in 26 industrial establishments in Youngdeungpo Area for a period of nine months, from March 1 to the end of November, 1972.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The prevalence rate of occupational hearing loss was 12.6 percent and it showed propotionally increasing trend by service-year.
2. The prevalence rate of organic slovent poisoning was 29.6£¥. By type of industry, the highest rate was 46.7£¥ in metallic industry and the lowest rate was 4.5£¥ in textile manufacturing industry.
3. The highest value of prevalence rate due to organic solvent, 50.9£¥, was shown at the age group of 22~25.
4. The prevalence rate of benzene poisoning was 24.0£¥ and that of lead poisoning was 17.7£¥, and showed proportional increase by service-year.
5. The distribution of occupational diseases by type of industry showed the highest value in precise machinery, 27.7£¥, and printing industry was next, 22.2£¥.
6. The average prevalence rate of occupational diseases, including hearing loss, benzene and lead poisoning, on 923 subjects, was 19.8£¥.
